Where LockMyPix is good
It encrypts every file with AES rather than just hiding it, says plainly that there's no backdoor if you don't turn on recovery, and backs up to your own Google Drive or iCloud rather than its servers. It's on Android and iPhone, supports SD cards, and Premium adds a fake vault, a disguise and photos of intruders.
Where it falls short
How hard your files are to open depends on how hard your code is to guess, and its help pages say so: they advise that a PIN "should not contain less than 16 digits". They don't describe anything that ties guessing to your phone, so a short PIN is the weak point.
If you turn on email recovery, entering a code from an email shows you your password. That's handy, but it means your password is kept in a form that can be shown again, and your email becomes a way in.
The free version shows ads. Its App Store privacy label lists identifiers used to track you, and its Google Play data safety section lists device IDs shared for advertising. Automatic cloud backup, the fake vault, the disguise and face-down locking all need Premium.
What Vault This does differently
Your pattern or passphrase goes through Argon2id and a key held in the phone's secure hardware, so every guess has to be made on that phone, slowly. Short patterns stay hard to break, and AES-256-GCM also detects any change to your files. There's no email recovery: your 9 recovery words are the only other way in, and nobody can show or reset your code, including us. If you lose both your pattern and your words, your files are gone, so the app checks that your backup works.
Backups are free and automatic, to your own Google Drive, a folder or a file. No ads and no tracking. Hidden vaults sit among random cover files, so nobody can count them, and a duress pattern opens a harmless vault while destroying the others. You also get password and card records, 2-step codes, document scanning and private folder sharing.

Questions
Is LockMyPix encrypted?
Yes. Its help pages say every file is encrypted with AES-CTR 256. The difference is how well a short code holds up: it advises PINs of at least 16 digits, while Vault This makes every guess go through the phone's secure hardware.
Can LockMyPix recover my password?
Only if you turned on email recovery or an alternative password beforehand; then a code from your email shows your password. Vault This has no email recovery: only your 9 recovery words open a vault you can't get into.
Why doesn't Vault This take photos of intruders?
On purpose. In Vault This a wrong pattern doesn't fail: it opens what looks like a new, empty vault, so nobody can tell a wrong guess from a vault that doesn't exist yet. Taking a photo would give that away, and tell them there's something to find.
What's the difference between a fake vault and a duress vault?
A fake vault shows harmless files, but your real vault stays on the phone for anyone to keep trying. Vault This has decoys too, and a duress vault that goes further: it opens normally while destroying every other vault on the phone, so there's nothing left to find. Your backups aren't touched, so each vault comes back later with its recovery words.
Why does it matter that a vault app shows ads?
Ads mean another company's code runs inside the app that opens your files, and information about your phone, including the fact that you use a vault, goes to advertisers. Vault This has no ads and no analytics code. We won't compromise your privacy for ad revenue.
Can I move my photos from LockMyPix to Vault This?
Yes. Export them in LockMyPix, then use Add, From another vault app, LockMyPix in Vault This. It walks you through it.
Is Vault This on iPhone and Android?
Both, from December 2026: Android, iPhone and iPad at the same time. A vault moves between them, either way, with its backup and recovery words.
